Can someone explain to me this phenomenon of people driving around in pickup trucks with the tailgate down?
That’s fine if there’s nothing in the back of the truck, I guess, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the guy who loads a bunch of stuff in the back of his truck and then decides not to spend a second closing his tailgate to keep it from falling out. He’d rather risk his stuff and everyone else’s safety.
Recently, I was driving behind a truck with an open tailgate. This allowed me to see that sitting in the bed of the truck was a box of nails! For a moment, it was like I was in some sort of “Looney Tunes” cartoon — one bump and the box would spill, popping hundreds of tires.
Another time, I pulled up behind a truck with a dead deer in the bed

How to buy books
How to buy books

SIR – I agree fully with the letter about bookshops (July 18).
Although online shopping has an edge over most high street bookshops and supermarkets in terms of price, there is still pleasure in searching for a book in a small and intimate emporium, with knowledgeable staff and personal service. It is an increasingly rare experience.
Our small bookshop has thrived for some years now by offering a loyalty scheme and an efficient ordering service.
Going online might be the cheapest method of buying books, while adding a couple of volumes to the weekly supermarket shop might be the easiest. However, the small independent bookshop is still the friendliest way to buy books. Nigel Strachan Stretton, Shropshire
InMage Wins Prestigious 2010 Red Herring Top 100 North America Award
Market Wire, June, 2010
InMage ( www.inmage.com ), the leading independent software vendor of disk-based, business application recovery solutions for mid tier and larger enterprises, has been named a winner of the 2010 Red Herring Top 100 North America award. This prestigious award is given to the most promising private technology companies on the continent, as determined by the editorial team of Red Herring magazine. Past Red Herring 100 award winners have included some of the technology industry’s most well-recognized names, including Google, salesforce.com, Skype, Yahoo! and YouTube.
“The Red Herring 100 awards are well recognized in the technology industry for selecting the pioneers to watch,” said John Ferraro, CEO of InMage. “Winning this award is a strong validation of InMage’s success in transforming the technologies that provide the foundation for recovery capabilities in the backup, disaster recovery, and application availability markets for enterprises of all sizes.”
This year, nearly 1000 companies were nominated for the North America 2010 award, and 200 finalists were given the opportunity to make in-person presentations to the Red Herring editors in a three-day event held at the Hotel Del Coronado, in San Diego, California. At the awards dinner on June 24, Red Herring announced their selection for the Red Herring 100, identifying what they consider to be the most exciting private companies from both a technology and an investment perspective.
“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the Top 100 Winners. We believe InMage embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. InMage should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”
Extremely high data growth rates, coupled with stringent recovery requirements and an increasingly complex IT environment, are presenting significant data protection challenges that legacy technologies cannot overcome

KUALA LUMPUR: A despatch clerk and a car repossessor pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Sessions Court to raping several minors.
Aidil Rashid, 34, was charged with raping:
* a 14-year-old girl at a room in a flat in Taman Industri, Lembah Jaya, between 3pm and 3.30pm between May and June;
* a 12-year-old girl at the same place about 6.30pm between May and July 2010; and,
* a 13-year-old girl at the same place about 3pm between April and June 2010.
Deputy public prosecutor Nordalina Ali urged the court not to offer bail as the three charges were serious and to prevent the accused from disturbing the victims as they lived in the same area in Lembah Jaya.
Defence counsel Mohd Radzuan Ibrahim, however, told the court to offer a reasonable bail as Aidil had a wife, two children, aged 8 and 5, and an elderly father to support. He added that the accused earned RM1,500 a month and denying him bail would bring hardship to his family.
Radzuan also said Aidil’s family had moved from Lembah Jaya since he was remanded.
Judge Roszianayati Ahmad then asked Aidil’s wife, Mazni Abdul Rahman, if they had moved.
Mazni confirmed that they had moved to her brother’s house in Sri Gombak two days after her husband was remanded on July 13.
The judge then fixed bail at RM8,000 for each of the three charges, with one surety and ordered Aidil not to go near the victims.
Car repossesser Lee Kwong Mun, 36, was charged with raping two minors – two of the three girls allegedly raped by Aidil.
Lee was charged with raping the 13-year-old girl at a room in a flat in Taman Industri, Lembah Jaya about 8pm between August last year and June.
He faces a second charge of raping the 14-year-old girl at the same place between 9pm and 9.30pm in May. Nordalina again asked the court not to offer the accused bail as he might disturb the victims.
Radzuan, who also represented Lee, told the court that the accused was the third child of six siblings and lived with his mother and three younger siblings in Sri Gombak.
He earned RM1,000 as a car repossessor and was supporting his mother and siblings.
The judge then fixed bail at RM8,000 for each charge and also warned Lee not to go near the victims.
Roszianayati then fixed Aug 30 for mention.

Since most publishers only allow a
Since most publishers only allow a limited number of ads, your ad will have greater visibility.
~ Most people buy when they least expect to, so as they are reading their Ezine they will be relaxed and more receptive to marketing. This contrasts sharply with many other advertising mediums (TV, radio, direct mailing) as then people are expecting a sales pitch!
~ Ezine subscribers feel comfortable acting on sales pitches because the electronic format makes it risk-free to respond to your ad. They don’t have to risk getting trapped on the phone or in a store by an over-eager sales staff. They take comfort in knowing that one simple click can get them back out again!
~ The electronic format also makes it easy to capture more information about your prospect. You have the opportunity to at least get their name and e-mail address (if you are savvy about your offer) and potentially a whole lot more.
